E3 STEM field trip policy: In order to go on a field trip, an E3 STEM student must be passing (D- or higher) all of their current AVHS classes 24 hours before the field trip departure time. Once a student is placed on the “ineligible for field trips” list, they need to speak with a member of the E3 STEM staff to be removed from the list. The staff member will have a brief conversation with the student and also check their current grades on Schoology.
Mini Medical School offers a unique perspective into the health sciences at the University of Minnesota. Once a week for six weeks, students – ranging in age from high school students to retirees – with a shared interest in health embark on a journey examining the scientific foundations of health and disease. These sessions will also be recorded and offered later this spring. Students can complete the series at that time and earn a certificate of completion. Learn more HERE and register.
A Day in to the Life of an Orthopedic Specialist Workshop – Explore a variety of medical careers in the seminar. Dates in 2020: Feb. 11, April 16, June 8. Sign up with TRIA HERE for one of these dates. Also sign up HERE to let E3 STEM staff know you are attending one of these sessions so we can get you excused from school and set up transportation. Event runs from 9 – 11:30 am. Departure from AVHS at 8:10 am and return at noon.
Perry Outreach Program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester on March 14. The Perry Initiative will be holding this event for high school students. Women in grades 10 and up interested in exploring careers in orthopedics or engineering are encouraged to apply. In addition to six hands-on “mock surgical” exercises, participants will hear lectures from local women surgeons and engineers. Applications closed. Medical Assistant Lunch & Learn Event: Feb. 28 during lunch periods 1 & 2 in the Community Room. Come explore what it means to be a Medical Assistant and how to enter this career field.
