Pre-apprenticeship: The Carpenters and Joiners Apprenticeship and Journeyman Training Center will be offering 12+ AVHS seniors the opportunity to complete a 5 weeks, 2-4 hours per day pre-apprenticeship course at Apple Valley High School in our Woods workshop. The course meetings will take place each Tuesday & Thursday. Meeting dates: 4/23, 4/25, 4/30, 5/2, 5/7, 5/9, 5/14, 5/16, 5/21, 5/23. Students and a parent or guardian will be asked to sign a contract that will include a statement of commitment and code of conduct before beginning the program. This contract will be completed at a parent/students meeting taking place on April 9 in the Community Room at AVHS from 6:30 -7:30 pm.
Pre-apprenticeship details: Within the course offerings students will learn the basic fundamentals of carpentry, standard equipment safety and operation, introduction to technology within the trade and potential jobsite visits. This course is designed to be a pathway towards apprenticeship and a career in the construction industry. Student will have the opportunity to apply for full-time jobs through this program and continue their apprenticeship training while employed in the trade.
This career readiness program is wholly funded through the Minnesota Department of Labor by a $20,000 grant through the U.S. Department of Labor.
